Update Catch-up #3: Germany & Italy

Standard

Last October, my mom had a lawyer’s meeting set to be in Berlin and was able to take us along with her. She said she wanted to travel with us before she lost the chance to. This was my first time to travel outside of Asia (I’d been to HK as a little girl) and was both excited and nervous.

The first part of the trip had me all panicky, and embarrassingly so. I didn’t like our first meal and I was starving. I think the anxiety and my nerves got to me because even when my dad offered me a sandwich I preferred, my stomach wouldn’t take it. I broke down. Good thing my mom was beside me and helped me calm down! Other than that though, the rest of the trip was good. I got the hang of connecting flights and having to handle meals and everything on planes and airports for several hours before getting to our destination. Dubai‘s airport was large, spacious, and had great pizza in one of their food stalls. We didn’t see much else.

collagedubaiAfter our stop-over in Dubai, our next flight landed in Frankfurt. We were still not at our end destination but at least we were near, and we were in Germany. It gave me jitters knowing I was in Europe!

collagefrankfurt

The cold and our smoky breath were the first things different from our country that we enjoyed. This time, our ‘flight’ wasn’t really a flight although it was treated in much the same way. We were taking a train to Cologne. It was a fast train and was more affordable compared to an actual flight. The route was pretty scenic too so we enjoyed that ride. When we finally got to Cologne, we were in awe because as soon as you got to the way leading to the exit, you could see the Dom from inside the clear glass. It was amazing. We stayed there for some days, and it rained, and it was cold, but it was beautiful and the food was goood. There were many old, amazing churches. It was also amusing that their taxis were all Mercedes Benzes! The only time I felt bad in Cologne was one night when we were out and it rained. It was freezing!! To make it worse, we were so far from our hotel, but I guess that made me tougher in a way.

SAM_4529From Cologne, we took a plane to Berlin, for the duration of my mom’s conference. It wasn’t as cold there, thankfully, and didn’t rain as much. Our hotel looked real good, and was near the tour bus stops and convenience stores. There were a lot of historical landmarks and beautiful palaces and buildings with intricate detail. The Berlin Wall, Berlin Dom, Victory Tower, and palace of former Queen Sophie Charlotte were the most beautiful to me. I also loved the Buddy Bears that were scattered all throughout the city! We also enjoyed having fresh sandwiches from Kamps and delicious sausages from Currywurst!

Here’s us with the Buddy Bears and my Christmas doodles:

collagebuddybearschristmasI was reluctant to go as we were living so comfortably in Berlin but Italy sounded inviting. Mom said it was their graduation gift to us and a surprise because we didn’t really know about it or were sure about any of that. When we got to Rome, we had an exhausting ride from the airport and to a taxi stop then from there to our hotel which felt like it was millions of miles away! I was getting impatient and annoyed but we got to our hotel in time. Our hotel was comfortable, and our room had a nice view of their garden. The driver of the hotel owner befriended us and gave us tips for our stay. That day, we had our first authentic Italian pizza and also saw the Vatican. In Rome, there were many Filipinos, which made us feel safe in a way. There were mostly stone streets and many paintings and portraits of Mary on almost every corner, which I liked. We heard the Pope speak to an audience, including ourselves, and enjoyed walking around St. Peter’s Basilica. The paintings and all the art there were amazing! Aside from the discomfort of some rain again and the confusing bus schedules, we felt good.

From Rome, we went to Venice. Our only trouble was we exceeded baggage weight and had to buy another suitcase but that didn’t take much time or effort. When we got there, the taxi took us to our hotel, which seemed like it was in the middle of nowhere and so far from civilization. However, we realized it was a good pick because it was right beside the train station which could take us to the main part of Venice. When we got to there, the first thing you’d see outside the train station would be the canal and one of the many beautiful and scenic bridges. It was amazing seeing the canals and the gondolas and the all the scenery there. There were also so many beautiful works of art incuding paintings, masks, and of course the Murano accessories. There were also beautiful people all around (HEHE). The churches there again were amazing and all the detail of all the buildings. The food was real good too.

collageveneziaAll in all, it was an amazing, breathtaking experience and I’m very thankful that we got this opportunity as a family. It gave us the chance to travel, enjoy, learn, and bond together. I would give anything to do it all again, and this time have my sisters along with me. πŸ™‚

Lucky/Blessed,

Lena

Update Catch-up #2: Teenage dream come true

Standard

This is an extremely late entry but what the heck. With everything happening right now I haven’t had the time to sit down and write about stuff that’s happened. Getting to the point, I watched the Jonas Brothers live with my bestfriend/sister Mia and her sister Maryose. We’d been waiting for that day for so long and when we first found out, we badly wanted tickets to the show. Mia and Maryose bought ahead cause they had enough savings. I on the other hand didn’t have enough savings to buy the ticket I wanted and was debating with myself whether to buy a different ticket or not. I had only been working for a month and didn’t have my salary yet. I felt helpless (head over heels in the moment.. I.. will stop now hehehe!) and desperate for a chance at seeing my favorite people perform live. 😦 Mia helped me join a contest for it but since it was Facebook-based I was sure it would be difficult. Days before the concert, my salary came in! It wasn’t enough for the ticket I wanted but I was almost there! A flicker of hope! The following day, one of my cousins in law, Ate Yan, messaged me asking how she could help me get a ticket. I thought she was referring to the contest so I told her to just like my entry. Then, she asked if she could send me some additional money to add to what I had so that I could get myself a ticket for sure. I couldn’t believe it! I said okay, thanked her, got the money the next day, and was able to get myself a ticket! My first big splurge! I couldn’t resist. It was Nick Jonas in the flesh. I had to be there! And I was going to be! πŸ˜€ Me and the girls were ecstatic. πŸ˜€

On the day of the concert, I couldn’t contain myself and kept playing their songs and watching their videos while waiting for time to pass so I could go to Mia’s house. I rode with them to the concert. I felt like a giddy high-school girl and my teenage self was going crazy! πŸ˜› (This feeling wouldn’t pass for a long, looong time hehe) Mia said she felt the same so at least I was sure I wasn’t going crazy. HEHE. After a while, we got there, had a quick sort-of dinner of pizza slices, and made our way to the arena. Random party songs were playing and we were sooo hyper. Giddy fans around us though were even worse off and going wild. :))

Moooving on to the concert itself, the front act was a local band fronted by a female lead. We didn’t recognize them but they managed to rile up the people around us singing OPM song covers. Up next was Anna Maria Perez de Tagle. She was a Disney kid and is a Filipina so we liked her very much. She performed song covers both local and foreign, which surprised us because we didn’t know she knew OPM songs like ‘Torete.’ She also performed her own songs which were catchy and light. We liked them. πŸ˜€ She got the crowd riled up even more asking if we were ready for the Jonas Brothers before leaving the stage. A fan fainted once her set ended. Sad how she wasn’t able to catch the Jonas Brothers’ set. :/ After a break and some introductory beats the Jonas Brothers and their band finally took their spots onstage.Β β™₯ I swear in real life they looked like porcelain dolls. Haha! How they got their skin to be so smooth I’ll never know. Maybe it’s a Caucasian thing? :)) Nick looked gorgeousΒ β™₯ I loved him even more so after that. They sang their old songs, new ones, ones mashed up with other currently popular songs, and solo hits. Even their band members sang! It was a relaxed, fun vibe all around. πŸ˜€ One of our favorite parts was when they sang Lovebug and everyone in the crowd sang along! It was amazing. All of it. Unforgettable. I think that was an awesome first treat for myself. πŸ˜€ I’ll post the photos soon but for now, that’s another one off the bucket list. :>

Nick J still has myΒ β™₯,

Lena

T.G.I.F!

Standard

Today was such a fun Friday that I feel like talking about it here! πŸ˜€ Everyone was more relaxed and smiling and having fun.

In addition to the little elephant puppet my officemate Richelle gave me some days ago, another officemate, Mark, gave me a stuffed monkey. πŸ˜€ I named him Nick J cause Mark claimed he looked like Nick Jonas. :))

Since Mia is my officemate now, we decided to try going out for lunch today. πŸ˜€ We decided on going to an Italian restaurant called Amici which wasn’t too far from our buildings. We ordered Pizza Margherita & Arancini. Both were sooo good! πŸ˜€ We were so happy our cravings were finally satisfied! Pardon the photo quality, my phone isn’t that good hehe!

After lunch, we had an intense brisk walk back to the office because we thought our bosses needed us already! We were feeling panicky but laughed it off when we got there because it turns out the matters we needed to attend to weren’t so urgent. :)) We went through the day having fun ourselves with our friends and officemates and were glad our load was lighter than usual. πŸ˜€ I went home with Mia and had dinner with her sister and lola, they were having camaron! My favorite. How lucky. :> All in all it was a great day!

And just cause I rarely ever do this and feel like it, here’s my outfit today:

I love Fridays especially because we get to dress down and be casual. πŸ˜€ Today I decided to wear my aztec pattern printed top from our family friend Tita Bardotte. I love how it kept me warm in the office! The cut was also unusual and I liked that. I wore it with a grey spaghetti strap top under because it was a bit short. I wore my rust-colored pants from Mango with them because the color matched some of those on my top. πŸ˜› For shoes I went with my usual Topshop flats with studded bows, which I matched with the ring and earring I wore. I said ‘earring’ because on the other ear I wore a rabbit earring. πŸ˜€ Yay!

Aaand that ends this week!

(Photo of me & Mia from a couple days ago, first photo as werking girls! :>)

More Fridays to come,

Lena

August has been interesting :-)

Standard

August is about to end this weekend and I haven’t said anything about it here. Based on what’s happened to me and the people around me this month, it deserves a collective blog entry before it ends! πŸ˜€

In a nutshell, August brought sick days, strong wind and rains, a new love for the sun, school spirit, and much-needed time for family. πŸ™‚

I was sick during the first week and still recovering two weeks after. I suddenly got pharyngitis after watching a movie. It was really random but could have been because of the strong rains that day too. It wasn’t that bad but I hated being stuck in bed due to fever and having a throat that felt like it burned and hurt whenever I coughed. Thanks to my family taking care of me though I felt better as each day passed. πŸ™‚

During the second week, the rain and wind got stronger, it was like there was a typhoon even if there was none. It was only ‘habagat.’ It started flooding around the metro and it was getting scary. We almost got stuck in floods after going home from Pampanga! 😦 Thankfully we got home in time. We got worried though about our relatives in lower lying areas and asked them to come over to be safe. My cousin Monique’s family stayed with us for a couple of days due to the intense flooding. Though the circumstance was unpleasant, we were glad to have had the chance to bond with them again after so long! πŸ˜€ After a few days, the sun came out again and we were all happy. πŸ˜€

When I got better, I was able to go out again and watch the UAAP men’s basketball games with my family. UAAP games are one of the opportunities for our family to really bond and enjoy together. πŸ˜€ We’ve won all games except one so far so it’s really been fun cheering on our team. πŸ˜› Another opportunity to bond came when my parents decided to go w us to Avilon Zoo! πŸ˜€ The ride there was an adventure in itself! πŸ˜€ When we got to one part of the route, it turned out the river there ran over the road and the water was knee deep so we laughed about it and hoped there was another route. :)) Dad and Tomas of course wanted to cross that road anyway. :)) Finally getting closer to the zoo, we had to pass a dirt road that was really muddy and had water puddles so that made me nervous but we made it across thankfully! πŸ˜€ The zoo was huuuge! There were so many animals I hadn’t seen in other zoos before like the jaguar, hyena, cougar, and capybara. I loved the jaguar the most! πŸ˜› We all enjoyed together and we were happy that we got time to ourselves that day. πŸ˜€

That’s August so far and I hope everything gets better from this point on! πŸ˜€

Enjoying,

Lena

Sisterversary

Standard

Today is a special day because 11 years ago on this day, or one of these days, I met my best friend & sister, Mia. πŸ˜€ We met when we became busmates in grade school and have become closer than ever as each year passed. I’m sooo thankful for meeting her because she’s the only one who completely understands me and puts up with everything that I am! πŸ™‚ She’s incredibly supportive and loving and I couldn’t ask for a better sister. πŸ˜€ We spent today out together and it was fun being with her again, as it always is! πŸ˜› So happy 3rd of June sissy! I love you! :*

Bucket List progress!

Standard

I don’t have my whole Bucket List yet, or have completed it for that matter, but there are three things that for sure have made the list and that I’ve been wanting to do for some time now. Last week, I was lucky enough to do those things! πŸ™‚ So here they are in the order that they happened:

– Watch Joe Jonas live with Mia

– Learn how to float

– Try snorkeling

Anyway, here’s how it all happened:

Two weeks ago (?) a local brand, Bench, announced that they would get Joe Jonas as their latest endorser. This made Mia and I super excited but at the same time quite worried because we wanted to watch him and meet him but we didn’t know how. Luckily, Bench had several contests and mechanics for us to be able to do so. One of their contests was for a meet and greet session with Joe and all we had to do was post their message along with a photo of ourselves with Joe. I suddenly remembered I had a ton of edited photos of Mia and Joe together so she submitted that. I posted my own entry in the hopes that we’d both win. Later on however, we learned that Bench wouldn’t handpick the entries and instead would hold an electronic raffle. It was then that we prioritized Mia’s entry since she liked Joe more. And SHE WON!! πŸ˜€ Imagine our excitement and delight at that!! I couldn’t have been more happy for her. πŸ˜€ On the day of the presscon, I accompanied her to the event, content with just staying outside and being in the vicinity and hoping to see Joe still. After a while, a security guard talked to one of the Bench people inside and they got me and some of the others waiting outside to go inside and join the others! Lucky day! πŸ˜€ And that’s how I got to watch Joe live with Mia. πŸ˜€

The next two goals on my Bucket List I was able to do when we flew to Davao. I hadn’t been to the beach in years and I was so happy that on this trip we were able to! πŸ™‚ I couldn’t remember the last time we’d gone to the beach even. :)) On the night of our arrival, Dad and I couldn’t resist swimming soon as we could. So we did. He kept floating on his back, something I’ve always been scared of. I asked him how to do it and he taught me. I was SO scared but when I learned how to relax and just let go of myself, I was able to do it!! πŸ˜€ It was an amazing feeling just letting it all go and putting all my trust in the water cradling me. πŸ™‚ This led to me being able to do the last thing listed above. The next day, my family and I went island hopping. Everything around us looked beautiful! The emerald green and bright blue water, the fine almost-white sand, and the endless skies! My cousins in Davao are used to snorkeling and all that. I wasn’t. :)) I was clueless when it came to actual swimming in deep water. My cousins said I could put on a life vest and I wouldn’t sink, so I tried, and thankfully it worked! πŸ˜€ I was able to swim in deep water for the first time! Then, one of my cousins handed me a mask and tube for snorkeling and my brother taught me how to use it. It took getting used to but once I got the hang of it, the experience was amazing! πŸ˜€ I loved seeing all the coral, and fish, and all the beautiful colorful creatures underwater! I felt like my mermaid dreams came true. πŸ˜›

Well, that’s all I’ve got so far. In the later days maybe I’ll get back to you with more of my list and more progress. πŸ˜€
